One of the oldest social and charitable organisations in the world, the roots of modern Freemasonry lie with the medieval stonemasons that built our castles and cathedrals, yet it is as relevant today as it was hundreds of years ago. 

Freemasons use four important guiding principles to help define their path through life: Integrity, Friendship, Respect and Charity.

Membership is open to people from all backgrounds and the organisation’s aim is to empower members to be the best they can be – it’s about building character, supporting members as individuals and helping them make a positive contribution to society.

Freemasonry provides a structure for members to come together under these common goals, enabling people to make new friendships, develop themselves and make valuable contributions to charitable causes. We are one of the largest charitable givers in the country, contributing more than £48 million to deserving causes in 2018.

20 March 2020: A message from the Grand Secretary

In these testing times, I have already been immensely impressed by the determination shown by a number of Freemasons to maintain their daily advancement in Masonic knowledge, and how receptive everyone has been to the challenges we face.

As the joint letter that I, and the CEO of the Masonic Charitable Foundation, the Freemasons’ Charity, has said, there is so much that we ought to do to demonstrate the value of who we are and what we do as Freemasons in the community. This also affords a great opportunity for every mason to expand his masonic horizons by taking advantage of the new Solomon website as well as honing and passing on their ritual skills.

While we will all be required to make adjustments during this period of suspension, I would also ask that members fully acquaint themselves with whether certain adjustments can co-exist with the Obligation that we all took when initiated. It is the opinion of the Grand Registrar that it is an “Antient Landmark of the Order” that Lodge meetings and the related ceremonies can only take place with all Brethren physically present in a properly tyled Lodge Room; however, it is acceptable for members to practise such ceremonies, most particularly those aspects which make up the spoken parts of the ritual, over the internet. The security implications and pitfalls (for example the ability to record on a number of software platforms) unfortunately do not square with our Obligation to assure privacy and confidentiality of proceedings - and we therefore ask members to refrain from any demonstrations of those elements of the ceremonies covered in the Obligation, or any attempt to reproduce the ‘choreography’ online. We have no doubt that our Directors of Ceremonies will have no difficulty in putting our Brethren right on such things when we are happily able to meet again. For these reasons please do not try to hold a genuine Lodge or Lodge of Instruction in a virtual form, but feel free to practise those elements outlined above.

We will, in the days and weeks to come, be providing LOIs with material from Solomon, and our extensive archives to enable learning, discussion and that ever important Daily Advancement in Masonic Knowledge.

As previously stated, I have no doubt that Brethren will continue to adapt to this challenging situation - but simply ask that thought is given to the implications that these have on our ancient Craft.

Dear Brethren and Companions,

These are difficult and testing times for us all. First, I wanted to thank each and every one of you for your patience and understanding during this challenging and worrying period.

Coronavirus is going to be with us for some considerable time, and I am certain you are as disappointed as I am that we have, reluctantly, suspended all Masonic activity. I trust that you will agree that it was the right course of action at the right time.

I appreciate the enormous disruption that this will cause all of us, and also the hole left in our lives by the withdrawal of something we hold enormously dear. To those of you who have been Masons for but a few months, this may seem a little strange, but to those like me, who have been ‘bitten by the bug’, we cannot help but feel bewilderment and sadness at how quickly something so important has been taken away from us, albeit temporarily.

For the next few months we may not see as much of each other as we have recently; we may be spread throughout the country, or indeed the world and we may have things asked of us which sit outside the ordinary compass of our experience. From a personal point of view, being over 70 and diabetic I am taking the "lock down" seriously, as I am sure all brethren in the same situation will. There are, of course, a great many in this position and it is not easy with no, even vague, end date in sight. My real sympathies are with those who live alone. I am lucky, I have a wife, as well as our children all of whom are most supportive and our daughter is arranging our shopping needs, where they can't be delivered. I do hope that many of our brethren are in the same boat and over and above that, we all have our large and active masonic community to rely on. We are luckier than most.

My youngest son is adamant that the best way forward is to try to have some form of structure in our day, as that is what we have been used to most of our lives, albeit in a very different format. I suspect that, in the current times, the structure will take on a rather strange appearance. We live in a reasonably isolated area and can walk for over an hour without seeing anyone, therefore I think the dog is going to get a great deal fitter (and could even become a better ritualist!); my office might become and stay tidy and I can catch up with all those things I have been putting off for far too long. This won't take up 3 months or whatever time is required, but I am sure other activities will develop as time goes by. Anything to keep mind and body active. Of course, at some point in the future, life will return again to normal.

I have already mentioned trying to keep a structure in our lives. Freemasonry is a very well-structured institution. Currently that structure has been disturbed, but rest assured that, whilst The Book of Constitutions is pretty rigid on some subjects, ways will be found to ensure that we get Lodges and Chapters back onto the right format as quickly as possible after the resumption. This difficult period will run its course, and move into history and our Lodges and Chapters will begin to meet again. Candidates will experience the wonder of the initiation ceremony, Bro Treasurers will again chase their profligate Brethren for dues, Grand Officers will, more’s the pity, sit ‘tutting’ on the back rows over some ceremonial sleight, imagined or actual, and the rhythm of our masonic lives will once again return to normal.

Over the last few years we have been trying to stress that Freemasonry must remain relevant to society and I have never been in doubt that this has been the case in many ways. However, it has never been more relevant than it is right now. What we do in the next few months, will be written into our Lodge and Chapter histories and will test us, as an organisation and as people perhaps more than anything in our lifetimes. I think it is fair to say that I cannot remember a more testing time for the organisation, for society and for the country. We need to step up and do our part, as we have in difficult times past, to help those, our less fortunate Brethren, their families and the communities from which we are drawn.

That is why, we have, today, released a joint statement with the MCF, the Freemasons’ Charity, committing to help those in need. Up and down the country, in Provinces large and small, Freemasons are coming together to commit to help those who find themselves at life’s lowest ebb. I encourage those of you who feel able to safely commit both time and effort to think on how you might play a very small part in this worthy National effort. There are many great ideas already out there, and we will be sharing these and how successful they are as things develop.

We will need your dedication, flexibility and patience over the coming weeks and months to help each other through these turbulent times. Freemasonry has weathered many storms in its centuries-long history. It will weather this one too, and we will emerge ready for the challenges of, I suspect, a very different world.

Look after yourselves, brethren, and I trust we can get back to normality in the not too distant future. I wish you and your families good health and happiness, and more than your fair share of luck.

Una vez al año, el Estado Libre, Soberano e Independiente de Leonlandia del Sur, presenta el anuario leonlandés "Lynx azul". 

Generalmente nuestro anuario se sube a nuestra página los primeros días de enero, pero esta vez y gracias a la cantidad de artículos recibidos, lo hemos tenido que postergar. 

Nuestros artículos contienen temas muy variados, todos relacionados con la espiritualidad, la energía de la buena voluntad y los valores por los cuales vivir. 

Todo artículo es responsabilidad de quien los escribe y de quien lo publica; aquí encontrarán también artículos escritos por niños / -as leonlandeses/ -as, que con su particular visión de los temas espirituales, se han dedicado con esmero a escribir y dar lo mejor de sí. Lógicamente, está presente la mano correctora pero jamás la censuradora. La libertad de expresión es una de las consignas que distinguen a la sociedad leonlandesa.

Alegría

Para quienes luchan, perseveran y se esfuerzan, la alegría es múltiple cuando llega la materialización. El contraste causa alegría, pues conociendo el pasado de tinieblas, gozarán en la luz de la fructificación y poseerán la alegría del compañerismo experimentado y probado; los años habrán demos­trado quiénes son los asociados elegidos, y en la comunidad del sufrimiento se fortalecerá el vínculo; la alegría de la paz después de la victoria será suya; para el cansado guerrero los frutos de la realización y el descanso son doblemente dulces; obtendrán la alegría de participar en el plan de los Maestros, y será correcto todo aquello que los asocie a Ellos más estrecha­mente; la alegría de haber ayudado a consolar a un mundo necesitado, de haber llevado luz a las almas ensombrecidas, de haber curado en alguna medida las Hagas del sufrimiento del mundo, les pertenecerá, y tener concien­cia de haber empleado bien los días y recibir la gratitud de las almas salvadas, trae la mayor de todas las alegrías ‑ la que experimenta un Maestro cuando sabe que ha contribuido a elevar a un hermano un poco más en la escala de evolución. Esta alegría les aguarda a ustedes, y no está muy lejana. De manera que, no trabajen para la alegría, sino hacia ella; no por la recompensa, sino por la necesidad interna de ayudar; no por la gratitud, sino por el impulso que sobreviene al percibir la visión y comprender la parte que les corresponde desempeñar para traer esa visión a la tierra.

Ayudará mucho saber diferenciar entre la felicidad, la alegría y la biena­venturanza:

Primero, la felicidad tiene su asiento en las emociones y es una reacción de la personalidad.

Segundo, la alegría es una cualidad del alma, sentida mentalmente cuando se efectúa el alineamiento.

Tercero, la beatitud es la naturaleza del espíritu, sobre lo cual es inútil hacer conjeturas, hasta que el alma se de cuenta de su unicidad con el Padre. Esta comprensión viene después de una etapa anterior, en la que el yo personal se unifica con el alma. Por lo tanto, la especulación y el análisis, respecto a la naturaleza de la beatitud, no son de ningún beneficio para el hombre común, cuyas metáforas y terminología tienen por fuerza que ser personales y están relacionadas con el mundo de los sentidos. ¿El aspirante se refiere a su felicidad o a su alegría? Si es a esta última, debe ser efecto de la conciencia y solidaridad grupales, de la unicidad con todos los seres y, después de todo, no puede ser interpretado en términos de felicidad. La felicidad llega cuando la personalidad cumple con esas condiciones que satisfacen una u otra parte de su naturaleza inferior; cuando se experimenta una sensación de bienestar físico, contentamiento con su propio medio ambiente, con las personas que lo rodean o con las oportu­nidades y contactos mentales. La felicidad constituye la meta del yo separado.

Sin embargo, cuando tratamos de vivir como almas, no tenemos en cuenta la satisfacción del hombre inferior, sentimos alegría en nuestras relaciones grupales y en esas condiciones que conducen a una mejor expresión de las almas de aquellos con quienes nos ponemos en contacto. El hecho de aportar alegría a otros, a fin de producir condiciones mediante las cuales puedan expresarse mejor, podrá tener un efecto físico cuando tratamos de mejorar sus condiciones materiales, o un efecto emocional cuando nuestra presencia les trae paz ylos eleva, o un resultado intelectual cuando los estimulamos a pensar clara y comprensivamente. Pero en nosotros su efecto es de alegría por haber sido altruista y desinteresada nuestra acción y no depende de las circunstancias o estado social del aspirante. Se renuncia forzosamente a gran parte de la felicidad cuando la salud es mala, el medio ambiente difícil y el "karma acumulado durante muchas vidas" agobia, o cuando las dificultades de la familia, nación o raza, pesan sobre la personalidad sensible. No debe confundirse la alegría con la felicidad de la juventud o la satisfacción auto­centrada de la persona egoísta o insensible, que se oculta detrás de sus deseos.

Parece una trivialidad y una paradoja ocultista decir que en medio de una profunda aflicción y desgracia de la personalidad, se puede conocer y sentir la alegría del alma. Sin embargo es así, y tal debe ser la meta del estudiante. (4‑268/70)

Estanzas

ESTANZA I

El Secreto del Fuego se halla oculto en la segunda letra de la Palabra Sagrada. El misterio de la vida se halla oculto en el corazón. Cuando vibra el punto inferior, cuando el sagrado triángulo resplandece, cuando el punto, el centro medio y el ápice se unen y circula el Fuego, cuando arde el triple ápice, entonces los dos triángulos -el mayor y el menor- se fusionan en una sola llama, que todo lo consume.

ESTANZA II

 “AUM” dijo el Poderoso Uno, y pronunció la Palabra. Las sép­tuples olas de la materia se disolvieron y aparecieron variedad de formas. Cada una ocupó su lugar en su esfera designada. Espe­raron que entrara la sagrada corriente y las colmara.

Los Constructores respondieron al sagrado sonido. En colabo­ración musical se abocaron al trabajo. Construyeron en muchas esferas, comenzando por la tercera. En este plano se inició su trabajo. Construyeron la envoltura átmica y la enhebraron a su Primario.

“AUM” dijo el Poderoso Uno. “Que prosiga el trabajo. Que los constructores del aire continúen con el plan.”

El Señor de los Devas y los Constructores del plano del aire trabajaron con las formas dentro de esa esfera que ciertamente les pertenece. Intentaban establecer la unión en su grupo asignado. Sus manos producían rápidamente los moldes.

El sagrado plano de conjunción, el cuarto gran plano, se con­virtió en la esfera, dentro del círculo mayor, que señalaba la meta para el hombre.

“AUM” dijo el Poderoso Uno, exhalando hacia el quinto, el plano de la tierra ardiente, el lugar de encuentro del fuego. En­tonces se escuchó una nota cósmica debajo del sonido del sistema. El fuego interno y el fuego externo se encontraron con el fuego ascendente. Los guardianes del fuego cósmico y los devas del calor fohático vigilaron las formas que permanecían amorfas, esperando un punto en el tiempo.

Los constructores de menor grado, devas que trabajaban con la materia, moldearon las formas. Éstas se dividieron en cuatro grupos. Permanecieron en absoluto silencio en los triples niveles. Vibraron, respondieron a la tónica, sin embargo, permanecieron estériles y yermas.

“AUM” dijo el Poderoso Uno, “que afluyan también las aguas”. Los constructores de la esfera acuosa, que habitan en la humedad, produjeron las formas que se mueven en el reino de Varuna. Cre­cieron y se multiplicaron. Oscilaban en constante flujo. Cada re­flujo en el movimiento cósmico aumentaba el interminable fluir. Se observaban las ondulaciones de las formas.

“AUM” dijo el Poderoso Uno, “que los Constructores se ocupen de la materia”. Lo que estaba en estado líquido se solidificó. Se construyeron las formas sólidas. La corteza se enfrió. Las rocas se endurecieron. Los constructores crearon la confusión para pro­ducir las diversas formas de maya. Cuando se completaron los estratos rocosos, el trabajo terminó. Los constructores de grado inferior anunciaron que el trabajo había llegado a su fin.

Del estrato rocoso surgió el otro estrato. Los constructores del segundo acordaron que ya estaba realizado el trabajo. El primero y el segundo, en el camino ascendente, permanecieron en forma cuádruple. Aquellos cuya vista era penetrante percibieron parcial­mente a los cinco internos.

“AUM” dijo el Poderoso Uno, y contuvo Su Aliento. La chispa que existía en los habitantes del tercero dio impulso a un mayor crecimiento. Los constructores de las formas inferiores manipula­ron el maya más denso, fusionaron su producto con las formas construidas por los seres acuosos. La materia y el agua fusionadas produjeron, a su debido tiempo, el tercero. Así continuó la ascen­sión. Los constructores trabajaron unidos. Llamaron a los guar­dianes de la zona ígnea. La materia y el agua se mezclaron con el fuego, y conjuntamente con la chispa interna, dentro de la forma, se fusionaron.

El Poderoso Uno miró hacia abajo. Aprobó las formas. Surgió la demanda por mayor luz. Nuevamente recogió el sonido. Elevó hacia niveles superiores la tenue chispa de luz. Se escuchó otro tono, el sonido del fuego cósmico, oculto en los Hijos de Manas, quienes se dirigieron a sus Primarios. Los cuatro inferiores, los tres superiores y los cinco cósmicos se reunieron en la gran inhalación. Se formó una nueva envoltura.
